Sancerre is a small appellation of the upper Loire Valley and this medieval, hilltop town is situated almost in the middle of the country in the eastern part of the Valley. The rolling limestone hills and semi- continental climate deliver rich Sauvignon Blanc with ripe gooseberry aromas and flinty flavours. All wine labelled Sancerre is made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape.

The vineyards here are planted on the south facing slopes. As a cool, semi-continental region, one of the main viticultural threats is spring time frosts. The most dominating geographical influence of Sancerre is the nearby Loire river which does help to moderate the temperature throughout most of the growing season.
